When we also feel helpless in finding a solution for the despair, the unfairness, we see or experience it is not so strange that we cognitively change the reality to make ourselves powerless to an economic system that is far from what any sane persons under any cultural setting would call an ideal of fairness.
Rather than taking the red pill and facing up against the hard task of changing the economic system that creates these global and local inequalities through systems trap of “Success to the successful” we pretend that this uneven trade is fair.
Even when we know that after an exchange of products and resources one person can go home to a local store filled with a cornucopia of choices while the other person can go home hungry we avoid that uneasy feeling of that something is terribly wrong here by acting like this injustice is just desert deserved.
To help our guilty consciousness and not looking like totally indifferent to the plight of the poor we invented the idea of aid, something we are doing poorly with real value (money, exergy) going the other way.
Let us not hide behind the big overwhelming system anymore and keep adding more and more band-aids (pun intended) to a systemic flesh wound. We can change an unfair economic system whose wealth does not trickle down but continue to reward the already rich, with more wealth and power to be even more richer.
It is an economic system where poverty is just the other side of the coin of technological development of the rich. So if the focus of the global community is to end poverty, again, let us make our economy distributive of wealth and income.
Or maybe just do a simple potlatch!
